Since crashing my Dodge Caravan after the brakes failed on me last week, I've learned that they are known for brake troubles. People have posted about the brakes failing, and of having to replace brake pads and rotors on them four times more often than other cars. I hadn't thought I'd ever own a van, but this one had come my way last year, and if I had known about this propensity in the first place, I would have had it checked more often. Just in case any of you are car shopping or know of someone who is, I thought I should post this warning after my experience. The good news is that I'm already getting a replacement car this weekend (a Honda - yay!) and the body aches are finally subsiding. Luckily I wasn't going very fast, and the cement column I took out had blown one of my tires and that slowed me down quite a bit so that the mailboxes were able to finish the job of stopping me. :p
Thanks! I've just started driving one myself... I think the brake thingies have been replaced in it but I can't car very well so I have no clue. I think the brake pads were worn out so they got replaced... Not 100% sure though. I hope your pains go far far away never to return. :3
Believe it or not, earlier tonight I was mentioned to my parents over dinner that there were reports of the van's brakes going out. On our way home, we started smelling brake smoke. Luckily I don't think it was from our vehicle, but still a scary reminder. D: When you buy your next car, get a hybrid. One of my family' members' driving style is horrible on conserving gas (revving up quickly and stuff like that) and they get 50mpg in a Prius. My other family member can get 65mpg in the same car. You'll save tons in gas costs!
