Fish Story. I really can't recommend it enough. At first you think it's moving slowly, but by the end you get hit with how profound it is. Castaway on the Moon is another good Japanese movie. I do like Amelie as well, and anything from Studio Ghibli. Curse of the Golden Flower was... ugh! I think for me the story wasn't complex enough. I was expecting political intrigue, more twists and turns. Secret is a better Jay Chou movie in my opinion, though they're two different genres so I guess it's hard to compare them. The Storm Riders is a classic for those seeking kung fu action/fantasy. Wing Chun is also another good one. As for Korean movies, there's Secret (not the Jay Chou one), Romantic Island, and on a more serious note, The Crucible which is an adaptation of a novel based on a true story about extreme child abuse at a school for the deaf. The culprit got a light sentence due to connections and the writer wrote the book to support the victims fighting for an appeal.
My friend over sold Golden Flower to me. I expected alot. Haha I just watched Mulan(not disney) the other day, it was sad. Korean and Thai romantic comedy movies are really sweet. You can't control yourself saying "Awwwww". Japanese, korean, thai horror movie never failed to bite my neck.
Z, isn't that a Japanese movie based on the manga, Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu? I tried to look for a Korean remake, but didn't see one. Usually Japanese movies are more somber than Korean ones. Oracle, I can't find any good horror films. They are all so disappointing. I want to be so scared that I can't watch at night! ManDude... lol!
Not being American, all of your movies are foreign movies to me :). On the subject of other foreign movies, I enjoy the occasional Chinese one mostly kung fu though from 1960-1980, I'm also an avid fan of Japanese cinema. French movies are not to bad either, unless they are extremely artsy.
