Anyone here good with computers? I heard from somewhere that your computer downloads images you click so you can view them. I connected this with my massive loss of memory and now cant find the pictures so I can delete them and regain my space. Where would I find these burdens to rid myself of them?

Hm... Do you mean clicking picture on the internet? It just loads the webpage that contains the pictures. The only way they would have been downloaded is if you right clicked and chose, "Save image as..." and you would name it and choose the file type.

Everything you download is in your downloads folder... If you're on a PC, that is. IDK about a Mac. Probably the same though.

I don't know why, but a few weeks ago my laptop got really slow and wouldn't even play YouTube videos fast anymore so I had to get a new one. If your computer is old, you may want to consider upgrading. If your computer's lack of memory is making it slow, that may be a problem.

It would be just as much money, if not more, to hire a tech guy to look at it rather than just get another computer.

I dont know the difference between RAM and hard drive memory. All I know is I went from 21 free GB to 17 then 12 pretty fast. Now that I think about it, I dont know how old my computer is. Well the hard drive atleast. Im pretty sure the computer case and whats inside is like 3, 4 years old or something.

HDD=Hard Disk Drive= The area of the computer that stores all of the data on your computer.

RAM=Random Access Memory= Its harder to explain, but ram determines how many actions your computer can do at once. Every action uses up memory and the data that is used for those actions is stored in the RAM until you stop the action.

The 21GB-12GB is most likely in your Hard Disk Drive.

Most likely any data pictures that you have downloaded from the internet is saved in this file.

Even if your at 21 or 12 Gb of free space in your HDD, Consider buying a new one... Thats litterally done. If you do gaming buy a new one for new games, but if not once you reach around 5 buy one

Well that means that you either have a really old computer that came with a low amount of memory or it means that you have a lot of files on your computer and they are taking up a lot of space on your hard drive.

delete your web browser cache and any temp files on your hard drive. get malwarebytes anti spamware program and run that to see if there's anything you downloaded that might be eating up your system.

just because your computer is old doesn't mean its not any good. it can always be faster, which you can do by adding more RAM (depending on your expansion capabilities), however, if you're not good about keeping it clean, it won't matter.

I recently got rid of a 1996, custom built PC running windows 95 on a pentium 90 chip, 32Mbs of RAM (yeah, way slower than your phone). it was running a full set of adobe graphics programs and had a 10GB hard drive (that was so advanced for the BIOS it had to be split into 6 secondary drives). my point is that this computer, though old, was still capable of doing some thigns (of course the web browsers wouldnt run on it and the 56.6kbs modem didn't help...).

For a virus scan, I recommend SpyBot. Make sure you download the one from their actual website. It takes maybe 30 minutes or less to scan everything in your computer. Then it will come up with a list of viruses and you can uncheck anything you want to keep... It literally saved my desktop computer from having to wipe the computer clean and reinstall the operating system. I got some virus that wouldn't let me open up and internet browser... It took days to fix. SpyBot fixed it with a scan though. Recently, when my laptop was running slowly, I ran SpyBot, removed what it told me to and it started up faster and ran faster overall.

If you haven't already, download Chrome and go into the Chrome Store and get AdBlock. There are a few of them, but it is the one with the stop sign with the white hand in the middle. It blocks all ads on the side of webpages, it blocks all popups and it lets you skip all YouTube ads before videos and during the video. That could save you virus trouble. :3

Can I download all that with about 6 GB left? On-and-off less than one?

You already went from 12 to 6? Wow... Um, it shouldn't be that much. Not even near that much. How are you using it up so fast? If you have thousands of videos of screen recordings, delete them. That could help. I heard that you can run a program on your computer to clean up unused files. It won't clean out anything important like documents, but it will clean out old useless program files that take up space.

I basically cleaned my computer of everything I loved on it. My games, my videos, my documents, some pictures. The only thing I left left that makes it "my computer" is a few videos, my music, and my search history. After that it freed up maybe .5 GB, 2 GB at most.

I used that SpyBot 2 - Search & Destroy to scan my computer. After 2 hours and some cleaning, I have 12 GB free again :D
Thanks for your help everyone. I feel alot better now.

12 GB still isn't a lot... Try this...

"Open your start menu and go to "All Programs." Under "Accessories" and under "System Tools," select "DiskCleanup". This will scan your computer for un-needed files. (If you haven't done this for a while it will take a LONG time, so be paitent.) Once it is done scanning, go to the "More Options" tab and under "System Restore" select "Clean up". This might also take a while. Then go back to the "Disk Cleanup" tab and select all boxes EXCEPT the "Compress old files" option. Then Click "OK". This might also take a while. Once this is done, go back to the start menu, go to all programs, then accessories, then system tools, and click on the "Disk Defragmenter". Select the drive you have MineCraft on, and click "Defragment". This most likely will take a LONG, LONG, LONG time, but will be worth it in the end."

I haven't done that myself.

I remembered reading about that when trying to make Minecraft run faster. I didn't try it, I installed a program that makes Minecraft run faster, but I did a bit of asking around and found out that it shouldn't be harmful to run the Disk Cleanup at least. I'm not sure how the defragging would serve a purpose unless you're trying to get Minecraft to run faster which you probably aren't, but defragging sounds a bit sketchy to me. I would definitely do the Disk Cleanup though. If you are worried about it like I was, do a bit of snooping around online. :D
